The “ERDIRA” self centering screen has three rollers, mounted on levers, which firmly support the device from three points situated at approximately 120 degrees. These levers supporting the rollers can be activated pneumatically or hydraulically with the two way piston.
The lever situated in the centre is moved directly by the piston, in the direction of the axis. The two outside levers are guided by two high precision cams. These cams are joined to the central lever. The rollers are treated and rectified and supported on water bearings. Rollers of a different type of material or configuration can be supplied on request. The rollers move absolutely concentrically and with exactly the same path towards the centre of the part in the entire holding range. Thus an action of centering and support is carried out automatically and precisely, depending on the holding force of the pressure in the piston.
As a consequence of this, automatically maintained holding is achieved during tasks of conical turning, copying etc. The “ERDIRA” screen is very compact and completely watertight to avoid shavings and dirt getting in.
By applying the “ERDIRA” screen as a fixed screen, the need to previously turn support diameters, causing increased costs and loss of time, is avoided. The “ERDIRA” screen adjusts automatically and precisely to any part size within its capacity.
As a movable screen it enormously increases the productivity of any machine tooling long and thin parts. The principle of fast self centering has the possibility of compensating for the contours of the part during its machine tooling. Its design, by having one side open, allows the blade to pass through, as well as the fast and easy loading and unloading of the part. Using “ERDIRA” screens whether fixed or movable is very cost effective due to the following advantages:
- Shorter clamping times
- Elimination of centering and turning operations by previous support diameters
- Possibility of more cutting cycles at greater speed and closeness, resulting in shorter cycle times in turning, copying, capping, drilling, draining, cutting operations etc.
The compact and narrow design of the “ERDIRA” screen, together with the possibility of locating the cylinder in different positions, allows it to be used in almost all turning, including where space is limited.
